XI RISA Convention
On 28-29 September MGIMO-University will host the 11th Russian International Studies Association Convention (RISA) “Dialectics of the Empire: Revolution versus Continuity”. The event is supported by MGIMO Endowment Fund.
The basic program includes the work of sections devoted to the topic of the Convention. Besides, according to the plan of events connected with the centenary of the Russian Revolution of 1917, in the framework of the XI RISA Convention MGIMO will host the international scientific conference “The Russian Revolution of 1917 and its role in the history of the XX century”. The Conference is co-organized by the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Historical Society).
Scientific contest among young researchers of international studies
In the framework of the XI RISA Convention a scientific contest among young researchers of international studies will be held for the second time in three nominations: “Best Monographic Paper”, “Best Collective Research”, “Best Scientific Article by a Young Researcher”. Besides, this year there will be a special nomination “The Great Russian Revolution and international studies: lessons of the past and current research problems”.
All papers submitted for the contest must be published in 2016 or later.
You can submit your applications from 15 June to 1 September. The awarding ceremony will take place in the days of the XI RISA Convention.
Publications in the aftermath of the X RISA Convention
The Executive Board of the Russian International Studies Association (RISA) kindly reminds to the participants of the just held X RISA Convention that those who would like to have their reports published are expected to submit their texts to moderators of the sections.

X RISA Convention: wrap-up
December, 8-9 MGIMO hosted the X jubilee Convention of the Russian International Studies Association (RISA) devoted to “25 years of Russia's foreign policy”. The event took place with the support of the MGIMO Endowment Foundation and the MGIMO Alumni Association.
The X RISA Convention program encompassed a record number of events - 60 sections and round tables, 2 plenary sessions and 3 international conferences: “Israel and Russia: common and specific in viewpoints. Devoted to the 25th anniversary of Russian-Israeli relations”, “Russia and Poland in new environment: are there opportunities for cooperation?”, “ASEAN and Russia in Asia-Pacific region: dynamic of cooperation, regional processes and the global context (final results of the anniversary year of the ASEAN – Russia dialogue partnership)”. More than 1200 leading Russian and international experts representing more than 35 countries have participated in the X RISA Convention.
Russia and Poland in new environment
The international Russian - Polish Conference “Russia and Poland in new environment: are there opportunities for cooperation?” has become an inalienable part of the X RISA Convention. Exemplified by the bilateral Russian-Polish relations a number of issues were discussed such as economic and political transition, foreign policy formation and the influence of European processes on bilateral ties. This conference has come to be a logical continuation of close contacts between MGIMO researches and their Polish colleagues, although slightly less intensive in recent crisis years.
The discussion of transformations in Russia and Eastern Europe was launched by the President of the Regional public organization «Center for Strategy», state secretary of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic / Russian Federation (1991 - 1992), professor Gennady Burbulis.
Israel and Russia: common and specific in viewpoints
December, 8 MGIMO hosted the international conference “Israel and Russia: common and specific in viewpoints”, devoted to the 25th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations, within the framework of the X RISA Convention. This conference has become an incarnation of socio-economic achievements of the two countries as well as an attempt of comparison of their approaches to world politics and regional problems in the Middle East.
The Conference has brought together diplomats and experts who stood at the origins of modern Russian - Israeli relations. The day before the official start of the Conference an informal meeting of the representatives of academic and business circles of the two countries took place. The Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Israel in Russia Heifetz Zvi, the Rector of MGIMO Anatoly Torkunov, the President of the Russian Jewish Congress Yury Kanner, the Chairman of the Israeli-Russian Business council Temur Ben Yehuda (Khikhinashvili), Chairman of Board of directors of “Gazprom Automatization” and member of the Board of Trustees of MGIMO A. Yunaev, vice-president of the Rietumu bank and member of the MGIMO Alumni Association Council Peter Gladkov.
ASEAN and Russia in Asia-Pacific region: dynamic of cooperation, regional processes and the global context
December, 9 the international conference “ASEAN and Russia in Asia-Pacific region: dynamic of cooperation, regional processes and the global context”, organized by the ASEAN Centre in MGIMO took place within the framework of the X RISA Convention. The participants of the Conference from Russia and ASEAN countries took stock of the intellectual results of the anniversary year of dialogue partnership between Russia and ASEAN and discussed the prospects of further cooperation.
Vice-rector of MGIMO Andrey Baikov and the temporary Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Philippines in Russia Ms Luningning G. Camoying addressed the audience with welcoming speeches.
Scientific contest among young researchers
This year in the framework of the X RISA Convention a scientific contest among young researchers was held for the first time in three nominations: “Best monograph”, “Best collective research”, and “Best scientific article by a young researcher”. The totality of 47 papers were submitted to the Organizing Committee in the period from September, 1 to October, 31. The jury consisting of the members of the Governing Board of RISA have assessed 11 papers in the nomination “Best monograph”, 12 papers in the nomination “Best collective research”, and 24 works in the nomination “Best scientific article by a young researcher”.
